  • Post category:Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that works to break up the accumulation of stubborn fat and remove from the body that does not respond to diet or exercise, in other words, it is a surgical procedure to remove fat from specific areas of the body using suction technology, usually, the target areas in the body are the abdomen, hips, thighs and arms And the neck, where  it  works to slim and reshape certain areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, and it is performed under general or local anesthesia, and if the person is suitable for this surgery, the doctor’s instructions must be followed before and after it.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure in which localized fat deposits are removed with a liposuction technique. This fat can also be reused to shape other areas of the body through the development of medical technology. Types of liposuction have been developed that can be used independently or with this surgical procedure.

It  is usually performed to remove stubborn fat accumulated in some areas of the body due to genetic characteristics, unbalanced diet, pregnancy, etc.

However, some complications such as excessive bleeding, which can be seen in any surgery, can occur. For this reason, you should not rush to decide on liposuction. The procedure should be scheduled after a comprehensive analysis.

Many people resort to liposuction for aesthetic reasons, but it is not performed for people who suffer from obesity or excess weight that can be lost with a sports diet.

Nor does it improve surface irregularities in the skin such as cellulite or loose skin. It is not a skin-tightening procedure. But it shapes the body by taking the fat in that area only.

Liposuction for whom?

It  is performed on healthy people with elastic skin who are close to their target weight (30% of ideal weight) as most patients have stubborn subcutaneous fat, no visceral fat (visceral fat is a dangerous type of body fat that can build up in a cavity the abdomen and surrounds the important organs).

Skin structure is also important in this process because, in people with sagging skin or cellulite, this process can cause bruising and sagging of the skin.

How is liposuction performed?

  • Before the operation, Dr. Ali Gaber determines the area from which fat will be removed. In addition, photos can be taken for comparison before and after the operation.
  • After the patient is anesthetized, the patient does not feel pain during the operation.
  • A sterile liquid solution is injected into the area from which fat is to be removed.
  • This liquid contains lidocaine (an anesthetic drug) that relieves pain in the concerned area, epinephrine (adrenaline drug), which can prevent bleeding by constricting blood vessels, and physiological saline (saline solution), this liquid solution numbs and strengthens the skin.
  • Then a small incision is made on the skin and a tube connected to a vacuum machine is inserted into this incision.
  • The tube is moved back and forth so that the fat can be broken down and sucked out.
  • After the operation, the incisions may be left open to drain excess fluid (and prevent edema from developing).
  • After the procedure is complete (drainage of excess fluid), stitches are made and the area is wrapped with a bandage.
  • If general anesthesia is performed in the procedure or if a large amount of fat is removed at one time, an overnight stay in the hospital is possible to prevent complications.
  • As for if local anesthesia was performed, you can go home a few hours after the operation.

The most important techniques

Liposuction is a type of plastic surgery that removes unwanted excess fat to improve the appearance of the body. This procedure is sometimes called body contouring. Liposuction techniques include:

1- Tumescent liposuction (fluid injection): It is the most common type of liposuction that involves injecting a large amount of a medicated solution into the areas before removing the fat.

2- Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (Vaser): Ultrasound vibrations are used to transform fat cells into a liquid. This technique helps in removing fat from dense, fibrous areas of the body such as the upper back or enlarged breast tissue in males (gynecomastia).

3-Laser-assisted liposuction: Lasers are used to dissolve fat cells, and surgeons prefer to use laser technology for confined areas such as the chin, jaw, and face, where the surgeon inserts a laser tool through an incision in the skin into the fat area after subjecting the patient to local anesthesia.

Recovery after liposuction

  • you can usually return to work within a few days, and all normal activities such as exercise can be resumed after two to four weeks or sooner.
  • When applying the doctor’s instructions (not smoking, not drinking alcohol, resting, etc.), the recovery period is shorter and painless.

Is liposuction a permanent procedure?

  1. It can usually take anywhere from 4-5 weeks to 6 months to see the results of liposuction, depending on the procedure performed.
  2. The positive results of this process usually take longer and are permanent if you maintain your weight and exercise, and we should not forget that liposuction does not prevent weight gain.
  3. liposuction should be supported by a healthy diet, exercise, and lifestyle that includes lean protein, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat milk.

Targeted areas in liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure used to remove fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen or hips. its shapes or defines these areas. Liposuction is used to remove fat from areas of the body, such as:

  • abdomen.
  • the arms.
  • buttocks.
  • chest and back.
  • hips and thighs.
  • chin and neck.

Liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in a specific area of the body, and the amount of fat that is removed depends on the appearance of the area and the size of the fat, and this helps in sculpting the body, that is, defining and shaping different areas of the body and reducing stubborn fat areas that are difficult to remove.
